Egg Whites vs. Egg Yolks
While it is believed that egg yolks provide around 80% of the nutrition found in an egg, there are misconceptions. Egg yolks contain pro-inflammatory properties called Arachidonic Acid, which in return cause inflammation in the body. Yolks also contain high amounts of cholesterol, a big contributor of heart attacks, coronary artery disease, and strokes due to its blockage of blood vessels. On the other hand, egg whites contain 6 grams of protein and all 9 essential amino acids. Egg whites are also great for our eyes by providing lutein and zeaxanthin which lower the risk of cataracts, as well as provide choline which helps regulate the nervous system, brain, and cardiovascular system. Studies have also shown that egg whites consumed 6 times a week by women reduced their risk of breast cancer by 44%. So when you’re not sure what to have for breakfast, whip up some delicious and nutritious egg whites on whole grain toast!
