Avocado: A Superfood

Whether you’re putting it in salad, making a dip, or just simply eating it from its skin, avocados are full of excellent nutrients. Dating back to the Aztecs, this buttery green fruit is packed with powerful health benefits. There are two types of avocados, Hass and Florida (Hass being the more nutritious and tastier one). Here are some of the health benefits:

  • High in fiber
  • Ounce for ounce, top the charts among all fruits for potassium, folate, magnesium, and vitamin E
  • Hass avocados are rich in healthy monounsaturated oil-18-30% in each one
  • The monounsaturated oil is oleic acid, which may help lower cholesterol
  • Good source of protein
  • Rich in vitamin K which plays an important role in blood clotting
  • Contain Lutein, which lowers the risk of eye diseases

Avocados not only contain many powerful nutrients, but taste wonderful as well. So the next time you whip up a salad, sandwich, or dip make sure to add some avocado for an extra burst of health and flavor!
