Tip: Eat Dinner by 6:30!

A blog titled “Tip: Eat Dinner by 6:30” by Robert Rohm questions the appropriate time to eat dinner and how to stay on task. Below is the blog:

Tip: Eat Dinner by 6:30!

Let me warn you in advance; you will have to read a few paragraphs before you understand what this Tip is actually about.

I have heard all of my life that you should eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. The reason is that few of us are very active after dinner and with no time to work off the calories, we tend to gain weight. (Have you looked in the mirror lately?) Often we reverse that order and eat breakfast like a pauper, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a king. The problem with that is that while we are then sleeping, our body has to work overtime to digest the food we ate. That causes us to wake up tired the next morning. But, that is not the point of this Tip. You have to keep reading!

My wife and I have decided that we want to eat dinner no later than 6:30 and be completely finished by 7:00. Since we are both in agreement about this, we have made a firm commitment to each other to do that. There is only one problem; you would think that everyone on earth has found out about our commitment and conspired against us to keep us from fulfilling it!

We knew when we set the goal that it would be a challenge for us to keep it. We don’t want to be unkind, or to be “picky” with any of our friends. We just want to eat dinner early and be finished for the night. It is as though we had put an ad in the paper that said, “Please help us eat dinner LATE every night!” because that is exactly what has happened. Someone always wants us to have a late dinner with them. We have even gone to a restaurant early, and for one reason or another, the food has been delayed in getting to us. If it were not sad, it would be comical. There is a conspiracy going on!

I truly believe there is a factor in the universe that does not want any of us to live by commitment. And, if we don’t live by commitment, we end up living by convenience. I have found that to be a very poor way to live.

If you don’t think that’s true, then I want you to do something this week….make a commitment regarding something you will do for 30 days. It really doesn’t matter what it is, whether it is getting up thirty minutes earlier to take a walk, or drinking three 8 ounce glasses of water per day, or giving up dessert for a month, or having dinner by 6:30 every night. Regardless of what it is, watch what happens after you make the commitment! It will be as though you have called out to the unseen world to come against you to keep you from doing what you want to do so badly.

Even though I have been light-hearted in the Tip so far, I want to be serious for a moment. If you do not decide what you want to do with yourself in advance, then you will be constantly ambushed by the surprises and events that take place in your life on a daily basis.

We have not given up having an early dinner. We will continue to work towards that goal and do all that we can to succeed in that area of our lives. I have always said that you cannot BE-ware of something until first you are A-ware. And, until you are aware that the powers and forces of this world do not want you to live by a predetermined dedication and commitment, then you will be caught off guard when your plans get derailed. However, if you will begin to make firm commitments regarding different aspects of your life, you will see yourself grow and prosper like you never could have imagined!

I don’t think I’m smarter than anyone or better than anyone, but I have lived a long time and I have seen this principle shape my own life as well as the lives of many of my closest friends. It will do the same for you as well. I promise!
